The Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned former Senator Dino Melaye to stop presenting himself as a party member. The party insists Melaye holds no valid affiliation with the ADC at any organizational level.
ADC Public Relations Officer Tayo John issued this statement in Lokoja on Friday. He accused Melaye of meddling in party affairs. John also criticized his unwarranted attacks against the party.
“Dino Melaye is not an ADC member in Kogi State,” John stated clearly. “He remains unrecognized in his local ward. Therefore, he cannot represent ADC interests.”
The spokesman accused Melaye of exploiting the party’s name for publicity. “He is an imposter. His actions contradict ADC principles,” John emphasized. “Melaye’s activities don’t align with our party values.”
John revealed Melaye never fulfilled basic membership requirements. He paid no dues at any level. The former senator also skipped all party activities. These are mandatory for valid membership.
Legitimate Leadership and Legal Battles
The ADC reaffirmed Hon. Leke Abejide as national leader. Abejide serves as a two-term House of Representatives member. He was elected under the ADC platform.
“Hon. Leke Abejide remains a financial member since 2018,” John confirmed. Melaye’s coalition met Abejide within the party structure. They hold no authority over him.
John declared Abejide’s suspension illegal. “They cannot demand his seat be vacated,” he stated. Abejide already filed legal action against them.
The ADC urged INEC and police to ignore Melaye’s claims. They also warned the public against his political statements. “His goal is ADC’s destruction,” John cautioned. “We won’t tolerate repeat behavior from his past parties.”
Two ongoing court cases will determine party control. Abejide filed one case. The Benue ADC chairman initiated the other.
