The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta State has inaugurated its new committee. The party boldly declared its intention to challenge and ultimately unseat President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the 2027 general election.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Wednesday in Asaba. Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, spoke at the event. He outlined the committee’s mandate: to establish functional party offices across Delta State. This includes offices in local governments, wards, and units. The committee will also lead extensive grassroots sensitisation efforts.
Abdullahi explained that these activities are designed “to promote and familiarise the public with the party.” He stressed that the ADC’s core mission, from federal to state levels, remains steadfast. The party aims to restore justice, equity, and transparency in governance.
“We in ADC are very clear,” Abdullahi stated. “Nigeria’s current problems stem from the kind of politics played over the years. To set Nigeria on a different path and make politics work for the people, we must play a different type of politics.”
He continued, “ADC is committed to ensuring justice, equity, and transparency. We believe these elements have been missing in Nigerian politics. ADC plans to bring them back as we defeat President Bola Tinubu in the coming election.”
ADC Criticises Delta State’s Development Challenges
The ADC spokesperson also lamented the state of development in Delta, despite its significant wealth. “Many years ago, I visited Delta as a Federal minister. Driving from the airport, I was surprised that nothing appeared to have changed,” he recalled.
He questioned, “Delta is one of Nigeria’s most resourced states. Why has it remained like this? This suggests the government has not worked for the people. We see transformation annually in states with fewer resources than Delta.”
“I have not witnessed such progress here,” Abdullahi noted. “ADC’s commitment is to ensure that any leader elected on our platform will prioritize working for the people. The party will not accept anything less.”
He further challenged the performance of the ruling party in the state. “The question is, has the current administration improved lives in the last two and a half years?” he asked. “If the answer is no, then the only option left today is ADC. It will take over Delta State.”
Abdullahi described the ADC as Nigeria’s remaining credible opposition party. He emphasized that its mission goes beyond politics, representing a national rescue vision for all ordinary Nigerians.
National Leadership Charges Committee Members
Earlier, Senator David Mark, the National Chairman of the party, addressed the members. Babachir Lawal represented him at the event. Mark charged the Transition Management Committee to uphold the party’s constitution and operational guidelines diligently.
He issued a strong caution against corruption. He also warned against ticket-trading, manipulation of primaries, and other “shady practices common in other parties.”
Mark commended Delta leaders for their dedication to the ADC project. He urged them to collaborate with the national leadership. This cooperation is vital for strengthening party structures across the state.
Usani Uguru Usani, the National Vice Chairman (South-South), also spoke. He encouraged members across the Niger Delta region. He urged them not to let past political setbacks discourage their resolve.
