The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly refuted claims circulating on social media. These claims suggested the party had already picked a candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, issued a statement on Sunday. He labeled the reports as false and misleading. Abdullahi confirmed that these claims did not originate from any official ADC communication channel.
Abdullahi clarified, “ADC does not hand-pick candidates.” He emphasized that no individual has been selected before the primary process. The party has already announced the official date for its Osun primaries. He stressed ADC’s commitment to internal democracy and due process.
According to Abdullahi, the viral claims emerged from unverified posts and publications. They were not from any official ADC channel. He further stressed that no aspirant is considered a candidate until the party’s authorized organs conduct the primaries.
“Until the party’s authorized organs conduct the primaries, no candidacy is valid or recognized,” Abdullahi reiterated. He assured all party members and the public of a free, fair, and level playing field. This applies to every aspirant.
Finally, Abdullahi urged the public to disregard all such reports.
