The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government of perceiving all criticism as attacks. The opposition party stated the APC has demonstrated “historical incompetence” in governance.
This response follows former US President Donald Trump’s remarks about potential military action in Nigeria. Trump had referenced concerns about Christian killings in the country.
ADC spokesperson Abdul Abdullahi clarified their position: “Nobody is accusing this government of persecuting Christians or religious bigotry. They are missing the point completely.”
Abdullahi further explained: “The APC interprets any criticism as an attack. They’ve shown consistent incompetence throughout history. This administration seems determined to embarrass itself and the nation.”
The ADC rejected suggestions that the US designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” represents opportunism. Abdullahi expressed concern about foreign framing of Nigeria’s security challenges.
“Unlike the APC, we don’t view this CPC declaration as opportunism,” Abdullahi stated. “But we feel deep embarrassment that outsiders define our security issues in ways that could further divide Nigerians.”
