The Accord Party (AP) has publicly criticized its 2023 presidential candidate, Chris Imumolen, for opposing Governor Ademola Adeleke’s defection to the party.
Imumolen argued Adeleke’s defection violated party procedures. This stance drew strong condemnation from Accord leadership.
National Coordinator Rev. Isaac Adeniyi distanced the party from Imumolen’s position. He called the candidate’s claims “reckless and misleading”.
“Imumolen challenged Governor Adeleke’s primary victory illegitimately,” Adeniyi stated. “He organized an unauthorized primary in Osun State.”
The party accused Imumolen of declaring himself chairman illegally. He reportedly formed a disguised National Working Committee.
“These actions are completely invalid,” the Accord Party emphasized.
The party commended INEC for recognizing Adeleke’s legitimate candidacy. They confirmed Adeleke followed proper registration procedures.
“Governor Adeleke registered at his ward before purchasing nomination forms,” the statement noted. “INEC officials witnessed his primary election victory.”
Accord leadership congratulated Adeleke on becoming their governorship candidate. They expressed confidence in his upcoming election success.
