Former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has officially announced his intention to contest the Kebbi State governorship election in 2027. The former justice minister revealed his political ambition during an interview with DCL Hausa.
Malami stated he possesses strong grassroots support across Kebbi. He emphasized that his motivation stems from a desire to improve conditions in the state rather than personal gain. He framed his candidacy as a rescue mission for Kebbi’s future.
Electoral Plans and Confidence
“INEC guidelines currently prohibit early campaign mobilization,” Malami acknowledged. “But when the time comes, Kebbi citizens will demonstrate their overwhelming support.” He expressed unwavering commitment to his gubernatorial bid.
The former minister declared: “I’ve entered this race without retreat plans. By God’s grace, we’ll secure victory. Our supporters believe in our mission. We won’t disappoint them.”
Policy Focus and Promises
Malami highlighted critical challenges facing Kebbi State. He noted that insecurity has displaced numerous farmers from their agricultural lands. This disruption severely impacts livelihoods and food production.
He also criticized existing economic policies. “Previously thriving rice mills operated successfully for twenty years. Now they’ve shut down,” Malami stated. He attributed closures to unfavorable policies benefiting foreign competitors.
Malami pledged comprehensive reforms if elected: “We’ll rescue Kebbi from insecurity. Our administration will restore farming as an economic backbone. Protecting citizens’ interests will remain paramount throughout our governance.”
