Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick has dismissed allegations of financial mismanagement concerning the FIFA Goal Project in Kebbi State. Pinnick labeled these accusations as “completely misconstrued” during a recent ARISE News interview.
The ex-football administrator emphasized FIFA’s stringent oversight throughout the project. He stated that all transactions underwent thorough auditing procedures by the global football governing body. Pinnick clarified financial details often overlooked by critics.
“FIFA maintains complete control over their funds through rigorous auditing standards,” Pinnick explained. “The 2020 contract value was $1.1 million. This translated to less than ₦400 million in local currency, a fact many overlook.”
Pinnick acknowledged COVID-19 pandemic delays but confirmed no budget expansions occurred. He maintained the project remained within its original financial scope throughout implementation. Construction challenges didn’t trigger additional funding requests.
“Despite obstacles, we avoided financial variations,” Pinnick asserted. “Execution followed the approved plan precisely. Critics may dislike me personally but should support Nigerian football’s progress.”
The FIFA Goal Project aims to enhance global football infrastructure. However, its Nigerian installations have drawn criticism. Several sites remain incomplete or poorly maintained nationwide.
