ADC to Remain on Ballot for 2027 Elections, Says David Mark
The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has declared that the party will continue to appear on the ballot for the 2027 general elections, despite a recent court order seeking its deregistration.
Mark described the ruling by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja as a temporary setback, expressing confidence that the decision will be overturned on appeal. The judgment also affected the Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, after meeting a delegation of ADC candidates in Abuja, Mark said:
“The ADC will be on the ballot in 2027. I assure all our candidates, members and supporters that this temporary setback will be overcome through the judicial process. We remain resolute and confident in the rule of law.”
The former Senate President argued that the ruling raises serious concerns about due process and democratic participation, noting that the Court of Appeal had previously ordered a stay of proceedings and adjourned the matter to October 27, 2027.
He labelled the judgment “an arrow fired at the heart of Nigeria’s democracy,” insisting it cannot stand because it fails the test of law and due process.
Mark urged party members and supporters across the country to stay calm and focused, assuring them that the ADC will continue its preparations for future elections.
