Tunisia sacks coach after Sweden defeat
Tunisia has dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi following a crushing 5-1 loss to Sweden in their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decision came just six months after Lamouchi was appointed in January 2026, during which the Carthage Eagles managed only one goal and conceded eleven across four games.
Former Tunisia coach Mondher Kebaier is expected to take charge on an interim basis for the remainder of the tournament.
Tunisia’s campaign began with a goalless draw against Canada, followed by a 1-0 defeat to Austria and a heavy 5-0 loss to Belgium, leaving the team fragile before the World Cup.
The 5-1 humiliation at the hands of Sweden finally ended Lamouchi’s short tenure, prompting an immediate change in leadership.
With a must-win clash against Japan scheduled for June 21, Tunisia will look to steady the ship under Kebaier and revive their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
