Rotimi Amaechi Says No One Asked Him to Be Atiku’s Running Mate
Former Minister of Transportation and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that nobody has approached him to serve as vice‑presidential candidate alongside Atiku Abubakar.
Amaechi had earlier rejected the outcome of the ADC presidential primary, alleging that the announced figures were fabricated.
“I stand by what I said about ‘concocted results,’ but I am still a member of ADC,”
He dismissed suggestions that he might have been tapped as Atiku’s running mate, adding that no one has ever asked him because they know his reaction would be unfavorable.
Atiku Abubakar was declared the winner of the ADC presidential primary after securing 1,855,787 votes. Amaechi finished second with 509,397 votes, while Mohammed Hayatu‑Deen garnered 180,903 votes.
Following the announcement, both Amaechi and Hayatu‑Deen refused to accept the primary results.
Later on Thursday, Atiku visited Amaechi at his Abuja residence. The two leaders held deep and honest discussions about the nation’s pressing issues.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Atiku said the dialogue centred on economic hardship, insecurity and the responsibility of patriotic Nigerians to keep searching for solutions to rescue the country from drift and despair.
