Atiku Accuses APC of Political Harassment Against Opposition Leaders
Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is responsible for engineering leadership crises across opposition parties in Nigeria.
Speaking shortly after being declared the winner of the ADC presidential primary, Atiku said opposition figures continue to face harassment, intimidation, and unlawful detention.
He singled out former Kaduna State governor Mallam Nasir El‑Rufai, noting that El‑Rufai has been held in detention for three months despite court orders granting him bail.
“As I speak, virtually all opposition political parties in the country have a leadership crisis engineered by the APC government, the INEC and elements in the judiciary,” Atiku declared.
The ADC candidate added that El‑Rufai has been denied the chance to observe two important religious holidays with his family and, most tragically, prevented from being at his mother’s bedside as she took her last breath.
“All because he is a leading opposition figure! This kind of cruelty must stop,” Atiku urged, calling for an end to the politicised use of security agencies and anti‑corruption bodies to force opposition politicians into the APC.
He warned that any further attempts by the Presidency, INEC, or the judiciary to interfere in the ADC’s affairs would be met with fierce resistance, stating that “enough is enough.”
