Fidelis Ilechukwu Undecided on Rangers Future Despite NPFL Title Win
Enugu Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu says he will decide his future at the club after returning from Unity Cup duties with the Super Eagles in London.
Ilechukwu guided Rangers to the 2025/26 NPFL title with a 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City in Lagos.
The win sealed the championship as Rivers United beat Katsina United 3-0, leaving Rangers on 68 points, one point ahead of their closest rivals.
This marks Ilechukwu’s second league title with Rangers in three seasons and the club’s ninth NPFL crown, tying Enyimba for the most successes in league history.
Immediately after the triumph, Ilechukwu travelled to London to join Eric Chelle and the Super Eagles as they prepared to defend the Unity Cup won in 2025.
Despite the success, Ilechukwu admitted he remains uncertain about extending his contract, which expires at the season’s end.
“It’s something we will sit down and talk about,” he told Premium Times. “Seriously, I’m not saying that I’m going to stay. I’m not saying I’m not going to stay. But when you have Amobi Ezeaku, I think you have everything. The truth is, I don’t want to work anywhere for more than two years. What I’ve done at Rangers is because of Amobi Ezeaku. It might be goodbye. It might also not be goodbye.”
“After coming back from London, I will sit down and reflect on myself, every situation, everything happening around me, things I’m not okay with and things I’m okay with. Maybe yes, maybe no. That is the truth.”
Ilechukwu joined Rangers from Plateau United ahead of the 2023/24 season and quickly turned the Flying Antelopes into title contenders again.
