NWFL Confirms Port Harcourt as 2026 Super Six Host
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has announced that Port Harcourt will host the 2026 Premiership Super Six tournament. This marks the first time the title‑deciding competition will be held in Rivers State.
Tournament Dates and Format
The event is scheduled from June 5 to June 14, 2026. Six clubs will compete in a round‑robin format, with each team playing five matches over nine days.
Participating Teams
The lineup includes defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and first‑time qualifiers Abia Angels. These sides represent the top three finishers from both Group A and Group B of the regular season.
Historical Context
Over the last five editions of the Premiership Super Six, four different clubs have lifted the trophy. Rivers Angels won in 2021, Bayelsa Queens claimed victories in 2022 and 2025, Delta Queens triumphed in 2023, and Edo Queens were champions in 2024.
Qualification Implications
The Super Six will also decide Nigeria’s representative for the WAFU‑B qualifiers, which provide a pathway to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League and the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
Match Schedule and Activities
Teams are expected to arrive in Port Harcourt on June 5 for the draw ceremony and pre‑match meeting. Matchdays have been set for June 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14, with rest days interspersed. The tournament will conclude with a trophy presentation ceremony on the final day.
