ADC Declares Mohammed Kpautagi as Niger State Governorship Candidate for 2027
The Niger State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced Mohammed Kpautagi as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections after the party’s primary elections concluded across the state.
Primary Election Outcome
State Returning Officer and Secretary of the ADC Primary Election Committee, Ibrahim Mohammed, revealed the results at the IBB Guest House in Minna. Kpautagi secured 67,924 votes, defeating his rival Idris Usman, who garnered 27,769 votes from the 25 local government areas.
Senatorial District Candidates
Ibrahim Mohammed also announced the winners for the three senatorial districts. Shehu Mohammed emerged as the candidate for Niger North, Muktar Ahmed won the Niger East ticket unopposed, and Baba Shehu, a former Deputy Leader of the House of Representatives, claimed the Niger South seat.

Candidates’ Remarks
Speaking after his victory in the Chanchaga Federal Constituency primary, ADC candidate Muhammad Muhammad expressed joy, describing the win as a reward for hard work and perseverance. He emphasized that all contestants had agreed to support the eventual winner and urged his fellow aspirants to honor that understanding.
Muhammad highlighted his campaign focus on youth and women empowerment, accusing the ruling party of neglecting the economic hardships faced by Nigerians. He noted the rising cost of living and inflation, promising change that would make life affordable for ordinary citizens.
He added that youth empowerment and restoring hope among young people would remain central to his political agenda.
Ibrahim Abubakar, ADC candidate for Mashegu/Wushishi/Kontagora/Mariga Federal Constituency, described the primary exercise as proof of thriving internal democracy within the party.
Hamisu Mairago, candidate for Agwara/Borgu Federal Constituency, thanked God for the opportunity to represent his people. He identified insecurity, poverty and poor access to education as major challenges, noting that many residents have fled to neighbouring Benin Republic or Kebbi State due to safety concerns, and stressed that security is his top priority.
