Omoyele Sowore Steps Down as AAC National Chairman
The African Action Congress (AAC) announced that its founder and 2027 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has resigned as the party’s National Chairman.
Samuel Ajeigbe Appointed New Chairman
In a statement released by the party, Samuel Ajeigbe was named the new National Chairman, succeeding Sowore effective immediately.
Sowore Secures Presidential Ticket
The resignation came just hours after delegates unanimously endorsed Sowore as the AAC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election. He was presented with the party flag amid cheers from supporters representing various states.
Sowore’s Vision for Nigeria
Accepting the nomination, Sowore said the AAC was created to build a “new Nigeria” free from corruption, insecurity and poor governance. He praised party members for staying committed despite political pressure and economic hardship.
Criticism of the APC
Sowore also took aim at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of incompetence and political manipulation. He dismissed claims that over ten million APC members voted for President Bola Tinubu during the party’s presidential primary, stating that the APC could not possibly have even ten thousand members.
Observers’ Perspective
Political analysts suggest that Sowore’s decision to step down as chairman may help the AAC separate its administrative functions from his presidential campaign, allowing clearer party structures moving forward.
