Atiku Abubakar Wins ADC Presidential Primary in Gombe State
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has emerged victorious in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary held across all 11 local government areas of Gombe State.
The result was announced on Monday evening by the state Returning Officer, Professor David Agbu, who noted that the exercise proceeded peacefully throughout the state.
According to the figures released by Agbu, the runner‑up was Amaechi with 1,150 votes, followed by Hayatu‑Deen who garnered 465 votes.
Out of 160,982 registered ADC members in Gombe, 140,949 party members cast their ballots in the primary.
Declaring Atiku the winner, Agbu said, “From these results, Atiku scored the highest votes in the election and is hereby declared as the winner of the primary election in Gombe State, held today, May 25, 2026.”
The primary formed part of the ADC’s nationwide process to select its flag bearer for the 2027 presidential election.
Agbu thanked party members for their patience while the collation committee compiled results from the various local government areas.
He added that any aspirant dissatisfied with the outcome may lodge an appeal through the party’s internal channels.
The announcement took place in the presence of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission, security operatives, and ADC stakeholders.
Among those present were former Minister of Transportation Senator Idris Abdullahi Umar, the ADC’s senatorial candidate for Gombe Central, as well as the party’s senatorial candidates for Gombe South and Gombe North.
Party executives and other stakeholders also attended the proceedings.
Prior to the primary, the ADC in Gombe State had already named Atiku as its sole candidate for the contest.
His victory in Gombe adds to the momentum as the party continues its presidential primary exercise across the country.
Recall that Atiku had earlier participated in the ADC presidential primary at the Ajiya Ward Polling Unit in Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State, describing the exercise as “democracy at work.”
Party members in Gombe remarked that the peaceful conduct of the primary reflects the strong mobilisation within the ADC as it prepares for the 2027 general election.
