Phyna Speaks Out on Regret Over Sister’s Justice and Family Strife
Phyna, the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, Ijeoma Otabor, spoke tearfully about her lingering regret over not obtaining justice for her younger sister, Ijeoma Otabo, who died after being hit by a Dangote truck. She said she will never forgive herself for the outcome and for the false narratives spread about her.
Critics had accused her of greed and emotional blackmail, claiming she ignored her sister’s welfare. Responding with tears, Phyna noted that she and her family have faced harsh judgment since the incident became public.
She added, “Pray that someone people believe quickly does not lie against you. Just pray because once the world believes that person and the wrong story about you, even your pain would not matter to them anymore.”
Phyna lamented that her sister would have turned 25 the next day, yet instead of celebrating, the family watches others judge them based on lies. She urged anyone who truly knows her heart to be appreciated and wished her sister a happy heavenly birthday.
“I will never forgive myself that I could not get justice and that someone lied against me and turned the case to dust. My sister deserved peace, love and justice,” she said.
Beyond the tragedy, Phyna revealed a family crisis that began after she refused certain demands. She explained that when she declined to buy an expensive roof her father wanted, he went to Vanguard to lie against her.
“Nobody was interested in me investing. Everybody wanted something. The moment I started saying no, I ran into problems. My first no was what carried that man (her father) to Vanguard. I said no, I cannot buy this particular roof because it is too expensive daddy. Let us buy another roof. He went to Vanguard to lie against me.”
She confessed that after announcing her BBNaija win, she wished she had run away instead of celebrating with her parents, feeling she would bear all the burdens. Phyna reflected that she has often been seen as the “bad person” in the family, yet still wonders how God blessed her while she remembers them.
