Nigeria’s Finance Minister Wale Edun has been unanimously elected as the new President of the Nigerian Boxing Federation (NBF). He immediately pledged a complete transformation of boxing nationwide.
Edun ran unopposed during Saturday’s election at Abuja’s MKO Abiola National Stadium. He secured all twelve delegate votes, reflecting broad support.
The minister thanked delegates after his victory. He promised sweeping reforms to revitalize Nigerian boxing. Edun’s administration will focus on structural improvements and talent development.
“We’ll rebuild Nigerian boxing from grassroots to global stage,” Edun declared. “Every young boxer deserves opportunities to fulfill their potential.”
Competitive Vice Presidential Race
The vice presidential contest proved more competitive. Hon. Omonlei Imadu from Southwest Nigeria defeated North Central’s Mighty Mike. The final vote count stood at 8-4.
Imadu hailed Edun’s election as transformative for Nigerian boxing. “This marks a new dawn,” he stated. “The minister’s passion for boxing is well-documented.”
Imadu praised Edun’s extensive grassroots initiatives nationwide. He pledged full cooperation from board members. Together they aim to achieve Edun’s vision for boxing excellence.
The vice president also commended the National Sports Commission. He specifically acknowledged Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Bukola Olopade. Their transparent election process boosted confidence in Nigerian sports governance.
