Kingsley Chinda Declared APC Governorship Candidate in Rivers State
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Screening Committee for Rivers State has announced Kingsley Chinda as the party’s governorship candidate for the upcoming election.
Committee Chairman Bitrus Kwamoti revealed that Chinda secured 268,497 votes, winning the primary contest. He described the exercise as peaceful and successful, praising party members for their orderly conduct throughout the process.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara announced his withdrawal in a personally signed statement on Wednesday night. He said the decision came after extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates, and pledged full support to whoever emerged as the party’s candidate.
Another aspirant, Tonye Cole, also stepped down from the race. In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 20, Cole cited the overriding interest of peace, reconciliation, and the supremacy of the party as reasons for his withdrawal.
With both Fubara and Cole out of the contest, Chinda’s emergence clears the path for the APC to present a unified front in the Rivers State governorship election.
