Nollywood actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has accused Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deploying intimidation tactics to weaken opposition parties before the 2027 general elections.
“ADC is gaining strong momentum nationwide,” stated Okonkwo, a former Labour Party spokesman. “But the APC is using every available method to intimidate and disrupt opposition strategies.”
Alleged Attacks on Opposition Gatherings
Okonkwo claims APC-sponsored thugs have repeatedly disrupted African Democratic Congress (ADC) meetings in Kaduna, Lagos, and Ekiti states. He alleges these disruptions occurred with security operatives’ protection or supervision.
“These coordinated attacks form part of the ruling party’s broader strategy,” he asserted. “They aim to silence opposition voices before the next polls.”
Condemnation of Security Agencies
The actor-politician criticized security agencies for failing to protect opposition groups equally. He argued this violates Nigeria’s Electoral Act guarantees of equal protection and political association.
“It’s deeply concerning that institutions meant to safeguard democracy are being weaponized against opposition parties,” Okonkwo stated. “The APC exploits every government arm to frustrate rivals, contrary to electoral laws.”
Confidence in ADC Victory
Despite the alleged intimidation, Okonkwo expressed strong confidence in ADC’s 2027 prospects. He characterized APC’s tactics as desperate signs of internal collapse.
“The ADC will form Nigeria’s next government,” he declared. “We’re implementing winning strategies while the APC implodes. Their public endorsements merely mask an amalgamation of sycophants.”
Okonkwo urged Nigerians to support parties committed to transparency and democratic reforms, emphasizing resilience against suppression tactics.
