Ugandan forward Melvyn Lorenzen has issued a strong warning to Nigeria’s Super Eagles. He also cautioned other Group C opponents ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Lorenzen vowed Uganda’s Cranes would present formidable opposition.
Drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Tanzania, and Nigeria, Uganda faces challenging fixtures. While Nigeria and Tunisia emerge as group favorites, Lorenzen insists Uganda won’t be passive opponents. The forward emphasized their determination against stronger teams.
“We consistently perform well against top nations,” Lorenzen stated through Uganda’s FA channels. “We’ve never collapsed against them. Teams won’t find us comfortable opponents. Now is the time to demonstrate this again.”
Uganda launches their AFCON campaign against Tunisia next Tuesday. They’ll subsequently face Tanzania before their crucial December 31 clash against Nigeria in Fez. This marks Uganda’s eighth AFCON finals appearance.
After missing recent tournaments in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, Uganda returns with historical motivation. They notably defeated Nigeria in the 1978 AFCON semi-finals. Philip Omondi’s brace secured Uganda’s victory against the Super Eagles.
