NFF President Ibrahim Gusau has affirmed the Super Eagles’ readiness. They are poised to compete for top honours at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The team approaches this tournament with strong determination. They recall their narrow 2-1 defeat to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the last AFCON final. That experience has fueled their resolve. President Gusau stated their ambition this time is clear. It is also uncompromising.
Many see the Super Eagles as top contenders for the trophy in Morocco. This competition also presents a chance for redemption. Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This was a painful miss.
Gusau believes winning the continental crown will heal past wounds. It will also restore faith among fans. This applies to supporters both in Nigeria and across the diaspora.
“Our objective in preparing this team is clear: to lift the trophy,” Gusau stated. He added, “The FIFA World Cup miss remains painful. However, an Africa Cup of Nations victory would greatly soothe our fans’ feelings. This applies to those at home and abroad.”
The Super Eagles arrived in Fes, Morocco, on Thursday. They are now beginning their final preparations for the tournament. Nigeria will kick off their campaign next Tuesday. Their first match is against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania.
