Bukola Saraki, former Senate President, has spoken about the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis. He assured party members that current internal disagreements would be resolved soon. Saraki acknowledged the challenges within the party. However, the former Kwara State governor dismissed claims that the PDP is in total disarray.
Saraki stated that internal disagreements are not unusual for a major political party. He noted that aggrieved factions within the PDP have already met with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Their primary goal is to resolve all ongoing issues.
Saraki: Disagreement Fuels Growth
“Many people claim our party is in shambles,” Saraki said. “I disagree strongly.” He added a vital perspective, stating, “Sometimes, it is better to disagree than to agree and stagnate.” Saraki expressed his firm belief that the PDP would overcome its current challenges.
“As I speak, the two PDP factions are meeting with INEC,” he confirmed. “I want to assure all members that our differences will be sorted out very soon.”
Understanding the PDP Factions
The PDP is currently grappling with deep factional divisions. Key figures involved include Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Governor Seyi Makinde, and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.
Wike’s faction has appointed Abdulrahman Mohammed as its acting National Chairman. Meanwhile, Governor Makinde’s group has chosen Tanimu Turaki for the same acting role. These party divisions emerged following the expiration of the tenure of the former acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
