Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has described himself as a grassroots politician while addressing rumors of a potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor made these remarks on Thursday following his presentation of the 2026 budget to the state House of Assembly. When questioned about defection rumors, Fintiri neither confirmed nor denied the speculation.
“I am a grassroots politician,” Fintiri stated. “What will happen, when it happens, then you can judge me.”
He emphasized his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding, “I am still trying to organise the PDP, which is my party and which gave me the platform to be here.”
Rivers State Lawmakers Defect to APC
Meanwhile, four Rivers State members of the House of Representatives have defected from the PDP to the APC. This move comes shortly after Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s own defection to the ruling party.
The lawmakers who switched allegiance include:
- Manuchim Umezuruike (Port Harcourt I)
- Boniface Emerengwa (Ikwerre/Emuoha)
- Awake-Inombek Abiante (Andoni/Opobo)
- Boma Goodhead (Asari-Toru)
This development highlights the ongoing political realignment in Rivers State following recent leadership changes.
