An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Alwan Hassan, has alleged widespread corruption during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, Hassan characterized Buhari’s tenure as a period of unchecked power and financial misconduct.
Ministers Should Face Jail Time
Hassan claimed 95% of Buhari’s ministers deserve imprisonment for corruption. He referenced recent scrutiny of former ministers Abubakar Malami and Chris Ngige as examples.
“There’s never been a period where ministers operated without supervision like during Buhari’s eight years,” Hassan stated. He noted Buhari reportedly advised officials to prepare documentation for future accountability.
Era of Unchecked Power
The APC stalwart described Buhari’s presidency as a “free-for-all” where ministers became autonomous power centers. Hassan claimed budget allocations faced no presidential interference.
“Ministers received complete freedom. They operated independently. Anyone who accessed Buhari became their own cabal,” Hassan explained. “Appointees faced no supervision. Responsibilities were fully delegated.”
Contrast With Tinubu’s Leadership
Hassan contrasted this with President Bola Tinubu’s governance approach. He characterized Tinubu’s administration as actively engaged in oversight.
“This government demonstrates hands-on management. Tinubu personally handles government finances,” Hassan observed. “Contractors report unpaid dues. The President shows careful prioritization. Past practices have changed.”
