A young man recently endured a terrifying four-day kidnapping. This occurred along the Ugwogo Nike–Opi–Nsukka Road in Enugu State. His account reveals the tactics of criminal gangs on this busy route.
The Abduction Incident
Peter, the victim, shared his ordeal on Facebook. Senator Chijinkem Ugwuanyi posted Peter’s story. Peter was seized around 5 PM on November 29, 2025. This happened near the final police checkpoint before Ugwogo Roundabout. He was traveling from Nsukka to Enugu.
Terrifying Start
Gunmen suddenly opened fire. They shot from both ends of the road. Vehicles crashed into each other. Peter fled into nearby bushes. He was captured near a Scripture Union building. This was close to Camp of Grace. “I heard a loud ‘heey!’ A gun pointed at me. I was told to lie down. I accepted my fate,” he recounted.
Life in Captivity
Peter joined other captives. They trekked through dense bushes and farmlands. He called it a “four-day nomadic lifestyle.” The gang comprised eleven armed men. They carried AK-47 rifles and other weapons.
Leader’s Profile and Operations
Peter described the gang’s leader. “He was a mid-sized man. His voice commanded authority. He managed all operations. He spoke fluent English, Pidgin, Fulfulde, and Igbo.” The kidnappers moved constantly. This avoided security forces. They fed their captives only once daily. They also made victims carry their supplies. Peter noted the gang conducted at least two more attacks. These happened on the same road during his captivity. More victims were brought in.
Motorist Warnings and Aftermath
He advised motorists to avoid the route in late afternoon and evening. Mornings, from 9 AM to 1 PM, seemed safer. He urged victims’ families to stay calm during ransom talks. Peter expressed deep gratitude after his release. He thanked God and all supporters. His story has renewed public concern. Insecurity on Enugu highways remains a serious issue.
