Manchester United has officially dismissed speculations regarding a potential January transfer for veteran defender Sergio Ramos. Reports had previously linked the former Real Madrid captain with a move to Old Trafford.
The 39-year-old Sergio Ramos recently became a free agent. He parted ways with Mexican club Monterrey earlier this month after his contract concluded.
Ramos’ availability quickly sparked speculation. Many believed United might add his vast experience to their defence during the mid-season window. However, these rumours have now been firmly shut down. ESPN confirms that United holds “no interest” in signing the Spain legend. They are not pursuing any deal for him.
Ramos boasts a highly decorated career. This includes a World Cup, two European Championships, four Champions League titles, and five La Liga crowns. Yet, United is reportedly focusing on younger talents for their winter transfer strategy.
The club still intends to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad in January. Reinforcements are considered crucial for the second half of the current campaign.
Nani Recommends Antoine Semenyo for Man Utd
While Ramos is off the radar, former Manchester United winger Nani has suggested an alternative target. Nani believes Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo would be a shrewd signing. He has urged the club to consider him if the opportunity arises.
When Metro asked Nani about a potential move for the Ghana international, he responded, “Why not?” He further stated, “That is the type of player the fans want to see.” Nani acknowledged the unique challenge: “However, we know that coming to Man United is totally different. Players have to adapt.” He then expressed his hope: “If we get Semenyo, he can bring his attitude and mentality. He can then put all his talent on the field to help the team.”
Semenyo joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023. The 25-year-old forward had previously drawn interest from both Manchester United and Tottenham. He ultimately chose to commit his future to the Cherries by signing a new contract.
