Manchester United has reportedly dismissed claims linking them with a January transfer for veteran defender Sergio Ramos. This comes despite recent speculation suggesting the club might attempt to bring the former Real Madrid captain to Old Trafford.
Manchester United Dismiss Ramos Link
Sergio Ramos, aged 39, became a free agent earlier this month. His contract with Mexican club Monterrey came to an end. This availability immediately sparked rumours that United could add his vast experience to their defensive line during the mid-season window.
However, those speculations have now been firmly shut down. ESPN reports that Manchester United has “no interest” in acquiring the Spain legend. The club is not pursuing any deal for him.
Ramos boasts a highly decorated career. His accolades include a World Cup, two European Championships, four Champions League titles, and five La Liga crowns. Despite this, United is understood to be prioritising younger talents. This focus guides their winter transfer strategy.
The club still intends to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad in January. Reinforcements are considered essential for the second half of the campaign.
Nani Recommends Antoine Semenyo
While Ramos is not under consideration, former Manchester United winger Nani has put forward another name. He believes Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo would be a smart signing. Nani has urged his former club to seize the opportunity if it arises.
“Why not?” Nani told Metro, when asked about a potential move for the Ghana international. “That is the type of player the fans want to see.”
Nani further elaborated on his recommendation: “However, we know that when players come to Man United, this is totally different. They’ve to adapt. I hope, if we get Semenyo, he can come with his attitude, with this mentality, and he can put all of his talent on the field and help the team.”
Semenyo joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023. The 25-year-old had previously attracted interest from both Manchester United and Tottenham. He eventually committed his future to the Cherries, signing a new contract with the club.
