Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has issued an apology to Mohamed Salah. This follows his critical remarks about the forward. Carragher made the comments leading up to Tuesday’s Champions League match against Inter Milan.
Earlier in the week, Carragher caused significant stir. He described Salah as a “disgrace”. He also suggested the 33-year-old star wanted manager Arne Slot removed from his position.
These strong remarks quickly ignited a reaction online. They seemed to heighten tensions already surrounding Salah. The Egyptian forward had recently given an interview. In it, he openly criticized both Liverpool and Slot.
The apology came live during CBS Sports’ Champions League broadcast. Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards urged Carragher to retract his statements. The ex-Liverpool centre-back agreed to do so. He then issued a direct apology to the Egyptian international.
“Mo, I apologise,” Carragher stated, as reported by Mirror. “I have upset you. I love you as a Liverpool player. However, you just need to behave yourself off the pitch.”
Salah was notably absent from the squad for the trip to San Siro. Liverpool secured a vital 1-0 victory in his absence. His omission followed the uproar from his explosive interview. The club has not yet provided an official reason for his non-selection.
Liverpool Secures Crucial Champions League Victory
This victory keeps Liverpool’s hopes of advancing to the knockout rounds alive. It also ended a challenging period of form for the team. The Premier League champions had lost nine of their previous twelve matches.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry also praised Liverpool’s performance. He admitted he did not expect such a disciplined display from Slot’s side in Italy.
“I liked the way Liverpool played,” Henry commented on CBS Sports. “Arne Slot stopped Inter from playing effectively. His tactics were spot on. That was a proper Liverpool performance. I didn’t know they had it in their locker. It would have been a reassuring watch for Liverpool fans.”
The decisive moment arrived from the penalty spot. A VAR review confirmed that Alessandro Bastoni had fouled Florian Wirtz. Dominik Szoboszlai calmly converted the penalty. He placed his effort into the bottom corner. This secured the crucial points. It also lifted Liverpool to eighth in their group standings.
