A Nigerian woman, formerly identifying as an atheist, has shared her spiritual journey. She recounted her return to Christianity after moving abroad.
She posted a moving video online. In it, she explained how her faith was rekindled in a foreign land. This happened years after she had left religion in Nigeria.
From Belief to Skepticism, Then Atheism
Victoria Onyi Ejeh stated she was once a devoted Christian in Nigeria. However, she grappled with significant questions.
These concerned existence, morality, and life’s purpose. These inquiries gradually led her to skepticism. Eventually, she embraced atheism completely.
Seeking Freedom from Faith
Victoria confessed to moving abroad deliberately. She believed she could escape God’s influence there. Her hope was to live freely according to her own views.
Her transformation surprised her greatly. She noted that three years prior, she would have dismissed any idea of returning to Christianity as impossible.
She explained, “I left God in Nigeria. I went to a country where I felt he couldn’t reach me. Yet, he was waiting there.”
“If someone had told me I’d make this video three years ago, I would have said it was false. I would have blocked them. But here I am today.”
“Friends, I’ve been writing about my conversion for days. It’s been quite a journey. This news might shock some people. Especially those who knew my past.”
“I used to argue fiercely against religion. My life felt dependent on it. I made many adversaries. For most of them, this news will be unbelievable. I understand their reaction.”
“I am not here to argue or preach. I am simply reintroducing myself. I’ve done this in writing. Now, I want to do it via video. You can see me, hear me directly. Understand that this journey is authentic for me.”
“As a Christian, I asked many philosophical questions. Questions about existence, the universe, morality, suffering, and life’s meaning. These questions led me to atheism. I began as a skeptic. Then I became an atheist. It was a gradual process, not sudden.”
“Today, a similar long process brought me back to Christianity. Throughout, I was genuinely searching. I truly sought answers.”
“Ironically, I left Nigeria hoping my atheism would flourish. I expected to be happy in my beliefs. In that country, people don’t typically care about private beliefs. They consider it your personal life.”
