Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen recently shared his unique matchday rituals. These include the music he listens to and the mindset he adopts. They prepare him before he steps onto the pitch.
Osimhen’s Pre-Match Playlist and Mindset
Osimhen, now a fan favourite at Galatasaray in Istanbul, revealed his pre-kick-off playlist. He listens to Olamide, Nas, and Damian Marley. He told the Smallie YouTube Channel that these songs help him enter a competitive state. This mindset has driven his career since childhood.
“From a young age, I knew football was my calling,” Osimhen stated. “I often listen to Olamide, Nas, and Damian Marley. The song ‘Strong Will’ particularly motivates me before a match. These are some of my key rituals.”
One specific track consistently sets his mood. The prolific striker, formerly of Napoli, shared his top Olamide choice. “My favourite Olamide song before a match is ‘King Shit’,” he revealed. He quoted the lyrics: “Don’t worry about tomorrow, forget your sorrow, forget about the shoes and clothes you borrowed.”
This season, Osimhen has already displayed his goal-scoring prowess. The 26-year-old recently netted two goals. This contributed to Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory against Samsunspor on Friday. The win underlined his crucial role in the title chase.
The Deep Impact of Defeat
Beyond his matchday routines, Osimhen confessed that losing deeply impacts him. He stated that defeat affects him profoundly. This is true regardless of the game’s level or competition stage.
“Losing is truly cruel,” Osimhen admitted. “It doesn’t matter if it’s street football, a professional match, the World Cup, or the African Cup of Nations. Even in life, I’ve hated losing since childhood. While it’s a part of the game and I must accept it, I would prefer to win every single time.”
This feeling of defeat often extends into the night for him. “Those close to me know I struggle to sleep after a loss,” he shared. He also noted his transformation on the field. “When I’m on the pitch, I become a completely different beast.”
