Dan Nwanyanwu, former presidential candidate for the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), recently spoke out. He claims individuals pushing former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest in 2027 want to “clean their mess.” Nwanyanwu strongly advised caution on this matter.
Nwanyanwu urged Jonathan to exercise extreme caution. He warned against responding hastily to these calls. The political landscape, he noted, has not yet fully revealed itself. Those pushing for Jonathan’s candidacy may not grasp the full implications of their actions, according to Nwanyanwu.
When questioned about Jonathan’s potential candidacy, Nwanyanwu revealed he had not yet spoken with the former President. However, he plans to meet him soon. Nwanyanwu advised Jonathan to “tarry for a while.” He explained his reasoning: “The same people calling him now betrayed an honest man. They betrayed a good man with a clear conscience.” This past betrayal, he stressed, should not be forgotten.
These individuals, Nwanyanwu asserted, now wish to exploit Jonathan. They aim to “clean their mess” using his reputation. He believes the situation has not fully evolved. They will eventually “realise what they have done” once things truly unfold.
Nwanyanwu also commented on the broader political landscape. He noted the pervasive issues within political parties. “Many of us refuse to obey the rules,” he observed. He referenced constitutional provisions for power rotation. “Power should move strategically,” he stated. Nwanyanwu then expressed his personal belief. “The South should ideally have another four years,” he declared. He acknowledged that such a statement might be misconstrued as support for President Tinubu.
