Laolu Akande, former spokesman to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has cautioned politicians against orchestrating a military coup against President Bola Tinubu. Speaking on Channels Television, Akande emphasized that political disagreements should be resolved through democratic processes.
His remarks followed reports of senior military personnel arrests over an alleged coup plot. Akande stated: “The military confirmed detaining officers, including a brigadier general. Such incidents are uncommon, making informed speculation inevitable.”
Akande commended security forces for thwarting the alleged plot: “We must applaud military intelligence for nipping this in the bud. Their leadership deserves recognition for swift action.”
The political analyst issued a strong warning: “Those opposing Tinubu’s administration must battle politically at the polls. Never use coups to settle scores.”
He urged concrete democratic action: “Dislike the President’s direction? Reject coup support. Politicians should defeat him through votes. Nigerians must register to vote. This is our proper path.”
Akande concluded with a national appeal: “We must collectively denounce military interference in governance. Our voices should champion democratic resolution always.”
