Actor Yul Edochie sparked online debate. He urged President Bola Tinubu to reinstate the cashless policy.
Edochie posted his request on X, formerly Twitter. He claimed the policy would curb kidnappings. It would also strengthen the naira against other currencies.
His post read: “Dear President Tinubu, bring back cashless policy. This policy significantly reduced kidnapping. It also boosted the naira’s value.”
Public Response to Edochie’s Suggestion
Edochie’s suggestion drew varied responses. Many users questioned the policy’s effectiveness. They also pondered his reasons for advocating it.
User Vintage_CEO commented. They noted cashless policy limits applied to cash withdrawals. Electronic transfers had no strict caps. Banks imposed typical transfer limits.
“Reinstating it is a poor idea,” they concluded. This is unless bank liquidity issues are the concern.
Maduna expressed concern. “Kidnap victims will suffer,” they wrote. Criminals might not understand the policy.
Onwa remarked: “Your name will surely make the next ministerial list.” This implied a political motive.
Lion Heart suggested: “Your ambassadorial appointment is coming. Just keep posting often.”
Great Gatzby reacted strongly. “You won’t get a political appointment,” they asserted. “Are you not ashamed of being overlooked? Your political strategies seem ineffective.”
Radical Duke advised Yul. “Focus on family matters, leave politics,” they said. “Suddenly challenging the President reveals your incompetence.”
Odogwu suggested Edochie sought engagement. “He just wants monthly interaction,” Odogwu claimed. “You were silent when people criticized the President. Then you would mock us.”
