Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem believes an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph next year would soothe the disappointment. Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This marks the second consecutive FIFA World Cup absence for the West African giants. The situation has deeply frustrated national team fans.
Awaziem spoke to the official website of French club FC Nantes. He stated the Super Eagles must move past this setback. Their focus must now be on achieving success at the 2025 AFCON.
Awaziem declared, “Winning the AFCON is my sole focus with Nigeria. I prefer not to dwell on missing the World Cup. For ourselves, our nation, and our families, we must rectify this mistake.”
Nigeria’s first match is scheduled for Tuesday, December 23. They will face Tanzania in Fez.
