Ukrainian boxing legend Oleksandr Usyk has voiced serious concerns regarding Jake Paul’s upcoming bout against Anthony Joshua. Usyk warned that the American novice could face significant harm during their December 19 fight in Miami.
Usyk, a former undisputed heavyweight champion, fought Joshua twice. He highlighted the vast differences in experience and physical build between the two. This, he believes, makes the match-up dangerously one-sided.

Usyk’s Stark Comparison: “Joshua is Rolls-Royce; Jake is a Fiat”
Recent weigh-ins reveal a 52-pound weight difference. Anthony Joshua also stands five inches taller than the YouTuber-turned-boxer. Usyk sees this physical disparity as a clear indicator of the challenge.
“If Anthony Joshua wants, he will kill this guy,” Usyk told Boxing Scene. His words underscore the potential severity of the fight.
Usyk drew a sharp comparison between the two fighters. He noted Joshua’s pedigree as an Olympic and world champion. Paul, conversely, has had a quick rise in combat sports as a YouTuber and showman.
“Joshua is a Rolls-Royce; Jake is a Fiat,” Usyk stated bluntly. He added, “Listen, it’s true. It’s just true… Yes, I will pray for Jake Paul. Because I want to fight with Jake Paul in the octagon.”
Experience Gap: A Crucial Factor
Usyk understands fighting larger opponents well. He dominated the cruiserweight division before moving to heavyweight. There, he became a two-time undisputed champion, often giving away size and weight.
Despite his own journey, Usyk clarified that Paul’s path is vastly different. Paul turned professional in 2020 after just one amateur white-collar bout. In contrast, Joshua had already won Olympic gold and held unified heavyweight titles by that point.
Usyk recently met Paul to tease a potential MMA contest. However, any future plans depend on Paul surviving his upcoming bout. Many expect the fight at Kaseya Centre to be the toughest night of Paul’s career.
Paul’s professional record stands at 12-1. Most of his wins came against aging or limited opponents. His sole defeat was against Tommy Fury in 2024.
