Nigerian internationals Samuel Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi have urged Fulham to remain positive. This call follows their dramatic 5-4 defeat to Manchester City. The high-scoring match took place on Tuesday night at Craven Cottage.
Chukwueze came off the bench to spark a late comeback. He scored two goals. These efforts helped pull Fulham back into a contest that had nearly slipped away. Manchester City had earlier raced to a 5-1 lead.
Iwobi also found the net. Emile Smith Rowe added another goal. It became one of the Premier League’s most gripping fixtures of the season.
Chukwueze Calls for Resilience
Reflecting on the chaotic evening, Chukwueze admitted the result was painful. However, he insisted the team should be proud of their fight. “It was a crazy game,” he stated. “I like the spirit of the team, almost coming back.”
He continued: “It is a difficult one to take. But we keep our heads up. I believed, we believed we could score the next goals. Now, we have to move on from it.”
Speaking to the club’s official website, Chukwueze felt Fulham deserved something from the match. “The chances we created in the second half were almost there,” he noted. “It was a difficult one because we wanted three wins in a row. That didn’t happen.”
He added: “But we’ll keep our heads up. We fought until the last minute. On Sunday, against Crystal Palace, we’re going to give everything for the fans.”
Iwobi Highlights Positive Aspects
Alex Iwobi echoed this sentiment. He stressed that despite the disappointment, Fulham should carry the positives forward. “I feel disappointed,” he told the club’s website. “We didn’t get anything out of the fighting spirit we showed.”
He concluded: “But I think we have to take the positivity from the game.”
Iwobi initiated Fulham’s comeback with a well-taken finish. This came early in the second half. Chukwueze then added his two goals. They set up a tense finale. However, Manchester City held firm in the dying minutes. They escaped with all three points.
Fulham now shifts its focus to Sunday’s London derby. They will face Crystal Palace away from home.
