Erling Haaland, the prolific Norwegian striker, recently added a historic chapter to his Manchester City career. He became the fastest player ever to score 100 Premier League goals. This remarkable feat was achieved on Tuesday.
Haaland reached this significant milestone during City’s match against Fulham. Playing at Craven Cottage, he ended a brief scoring drought with a decisive strike.
Breaking a Long-Standing Record
He scored midway through the first half, putting Manchester City ahead. This goal marked his 100th in only 111 league appearances. It shattered the previous record held by Alan Shearer. The former Newcastle and Blackburn legend needed 124 matches to reach the same century mark.
Since joining City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Haaland has consistently broken records. He had previously gone three matches without scoring. These games were against Newcastle, Bayer Leverkusen, and Leeds. However, his latest goal showcased his signature ruthless finishing, reminding fans of his incredible attacking prowess.
The build-up to the goal was initiated by Jeremy Doku. Doku delivered a perfect cut-back pass to Haaland. The striker quickly assessed the situation. He then drilled a powerful shot from about 12 yards out. Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno was left with no chance as the ball flew past him.
This particular strike was his 15th league goal of the current season. It also brought his total to 20 goals across all competitions.
Haaland’s Dominant Style
Breaking down his 100 Premier League goals, 71 were scored with his dominant left foot. Additionally, 17 of these goals were powerful headers.
Alan Shearer’s impressive all-time record of 260 Premier League goals is still far off. However, Haaland’s exceptional scoring rate suggests that even this formidable milestone could be challenged in the future.
