A Nigerian woman residing in the UK recently ignited an online debate. She asserted that many Nigerian men in the United Kingdom are confronting severe health challenges. These issues reportedly stem from significant financial pressure exerted by their wives.
In a social media video, the woman suggested a common scenario. Many couples earn similar salaries, or sometimes the wife earns more. Yet, husbands reportedly bear the entire financial burden of the household.

Concerns Over Uneven Household Financial Burdens
She claimed numerous women use their earnings for personal ventures. They also support relatives back in Nigeria. Meanwhile, their husbands manage all household finances.
The Health Toll of Chronic Stress
The woman, a hospital worker, further disclosed her observations. She frequently sees Black men, many suffering from stress-related conditions. This includes stroke, sometimes at ages as young as 45.
She specifically stated:
“In the UK, many responsible men are reportedly overwhelmed by financial responsibilities. How can two people, earning similar or even disparate salaries (with the wife earning more), result in the wife contributing nothing financially? She uses her money for personal desires. She pushes her husband, reminding him he is the ‘man of the house.’
Your wife works and sends money to her family. You spend all your earnings caring for your family, embracing the ‘man of the house’ role.
What truly pains me is seeing so many Black men in the hospital where I work. Many have suffered strokes, even at 45, which is not normal. What causes this? Stress. They carry an unbearable load, and as the ‘man of the house,’ they accept it.”
