Brazil’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has issued a stern warning. He stated that star forwards like Neymar and Vinicius Jr are not guaranteed spots in the 2026 World Cup squad. Only players who are fully fit and performing at their peak will be considered.
Speaking to Esporte Record, Ancelotti stressed the importance of top form. This is especially true for a team with so much attacking talent. “We have many excellent players,” Ancelotti explained. “I must select those who are 100% fit. This applies not only to Neymar but also to Vinicius.”
The Italian coach further clarified that fitness will be the ultimate determinant for his squad choices. “If Vinicius is only 90%,” he stated, “I will call up someone else who is 100%. Our team faces intense competition, particularly in attack. We are blessed with many high-quality attacking options.”
Ancelotti’s comments underscore the fierce competition within the Seleção. Numerous talented forwards are all vying for limited places. Since his appointment last summer, Ancelotti has not yet selected Neymar. As a result, Neymar has missed eight international games.
