Super Eagles star Terem Moffi is currently on sick leave. This follows a shocking assault by angry Nice supporters. The incident occurred after the squad’s 3-1 defeat to Lorient at the weekend.
Terem Moffi Attacked by Angry Nice Ultras
Reports indicate the incident took place late on Sunday night. The team had just arrived back at the club’s training complex. Around 400 Ultras had gathered there. They confronted the players as they exited the team bus.
Terem Moffi was among those targeted. The Super Eagles striker had his hair pulled and was kicked during the confrontation. This attack has left him unavailable for a week. His teammate, Jérémie Boga, also received a five-day sign-off due to injuries sustained in the same attack.
Both players visited a local police station on Monday. They filed formal complaints against their attackers. OGC Nice issued a strong statement regarding the incident. The club stated, “the excesses we saw during this gathering are unacceptable.” They further insisted on condemning “these acts with the highest toughness.”
The loss in Brittany was Nice’s sixth consecutive defeat across all competitions. This string of poor results has intensified tensions around the club.
Nigerian Duo Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi Out for Nottingham Forest
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche has confirmed injury setbacks for two Nigerian internationals. Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi will miss Wednesday’s Premier League match. Forest will face Wolves at Molineux, a team featuring Tolu Arokodare.
Aina has been out since September. He limped off during the opening minutes of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa. This hamstring problem has sidelined him for sixteen matches. He is not expected to return until the new year.
His absence is further complicated by Premier League registration rules. Forest did not list him for the Premier League or Europa League after his injury. This means the fullback cannot play again until the transfer window reopens in January.
Awoniyi is also unavailable. He continues to manage a muscular issue. This will be his third consecutive league outing missed. His absence adds to Dyche’s fitness concerns ahead of a challenging trip to the Midlands.
Providing an update on his squad, Dyche shared some “better news.” He noted that some players are back training. However, Taiwo, Wood, and Douglas are still out. They are getting closer to a return, though.
Dyche also commented on Aina’s recovery. “Ola Aina is getting close to fitness,” he said. “But obviously, he can’t be with us until January.” His three-month lay-off creates a difficult decision for Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle. Chelle will need to consider Aina’s involvement in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
