The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party (AP) has extended a notable offer. They promised their governorship ticket to Governor Ademola Adeleke. This offer stands if he chooses to contest under their platform.
However, the party chairman, Dr. Akande, clarified a point. He stated that neither Adeleke nor his associates have formally contacted him. Akande described current speculation about Adeleke using AP for re-election as mere rumour.
The Accord Party is currently listed among potential platforms for Adeleke’s re-election bid. This arises amid recent internal crises within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Dr. Akande acknowledged that two aspirants already seek the party’s ticket. These candidates are eyeing the August 8, 2026, poll. Despite this, Akande affirmed Adeleke would be welcomed if he chose to join AP.
“The issue of Governor Adeleke remains a rumour to me,” Akande reiterated. “As state chairman, I haven’t met anyone in government concerning this. Other parties are also being mentioned regarding Adeleke’s defection. But if he joins our party, we will welcome him wholeheartedly.”
He further explained the party’s open-door policy. “Our political party door is always open. People are free to join or leave anytime they wish. If Adeleke comes, we will grant him a waiver to contest. This applies just like any other interested person. A standing waiver already exists within the party. Currently, two individuals have shown interest in contesting under our banner. However, they haven’t committed financially.”
PDP’s Stance on Adeleke’s Future
The Osun State PDP has also reacted to the speculations. The party stated that Adeleke will decide his re-election platform. This decision rests solely with him. It is expected now that he has returned from a foreign trip.
Oladele Bamiji, Osun PDP Director of Media and Publicity, spoke to Punch. He confirmed Adeleke would issue clear directives soon. These directives will clarify if he remains in the PDP or moves to another party.
“The governor holds the power,” Bamiji stated. “He is back now. We all await his directive. If he needs to move to another party, or stay where he is, he will inform the world.”
