Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, once Secretary to the Osun State Government, has formally withdrawn from the Omoluabi Progressives. He is a known ally of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Adeoti also co-founded this political group and served as its Deputy Leader. His departure signals significant shifts within Aregbesola’s political camp.
Adeoti formally conveyed his decision in a letter. Titled “Letter Of Withdrawal From Omoluabi Progressives,” the letter read: “I, Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti, the Deputy Leader of Omoluabi Progressives in Osun State, hereby tender this letter of withdrawal from the group, which I co-founded with other Progressive-minded individuals across the state.”
He further declared his complete disengagement from all group activities henceforth.
Adeoti admitted that leaving was a difficult choice. He reflected on his significant investments in the group. These efforts had ensured its survival through various challenges since its creation.
He cited family pressure as a major factor. Both his immediate and extended family members urged him to take a short break from all political activities.
Adeoti thanked members for their trust in him. He also wished the current leadership success in their future undertakings.
Speculations About ADC Governorship Race
Speculations link Adeoti’s withdrawal to reports surrounding the 2026 governorship race. A former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Dr. Najeem Salaam, reportedly emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s preferred candidate.
Salaam was allegedly chosen over Adeoti in an informal vote. This selection reportedly took place at a recent meeting in Lagos.
ADC Denies Candidate Selection Claims
However, the ADC has refuted these claims. Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, dismissed reports of Salaam’s selection.
Abdullahi labeled the claims as “false and misleading.” He stated clearly that “ADC does not hand-pick candidates.” No individual has been selected before the primary process, he added.
He stressed that these viral reports did not originate from the party. Abdullahi noted that “the so-called announcement being shared originates from unverified posts and publications, not from any official ADC channel.”
Abdullahi further emphasized that no candidacy is valid or recognized. This remains true until the party conducts its primaries through authorized channels.
He assured members and the public of ADC’s commitment. The party will provide a free, fair, and level playing field for all aspirants.
“We ask the public to disregard any and all such reports,” Abdullahi concluded.
