Nigerian dancer Roseline Omokhoa Afije, widely known as Liquorose, recently shared a personal experience. She revealed how a positive COVID-19 test in 2020 nearly cost her a Big Brother Naija spot.
This unexpected setback left her deeply disheartened. It almost made her abandon her dream of entering the BBNaija house. Liquorose was not alone in this challenge. Another hopeful contestant, Jaypaul, also tested positive that year. Both were unable to participate in the show.
Despite the disappointment, both decided to try again. They returned for auditions the following year. Liquorose admitted the painful memory of 2020 made her hesitate. She almost skipped the 2021 auditions entirely. However, a supportive friend encouraged her to give it another shot.
She eventually went through the audition process once more. Later, she discovered her selection for the show. Her persistence paid off remarkably. Liquorose competed in Big Brother Naija Season 5 in 2021. She emerged as the first runner-up, narrowly losing to Whitemoney.
Recalling the initial heartbreak, Liquorose recounted her 2020 experience. She said, “I was backstage at the BBNaija opening show. I was dressed up and make up done, but I was not called. That really hurt me.”
She continued, “That experience was messing with me. So, the following year, I didn’t even want to audition. But my friend convinced me to try. I just auditioned and forgot about it. I just went to check my spam one day. There, I discovered that I had been selected. It was crazy.”
