Moroccan football club RS Berkane has arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. They are set for their CAF Champions League group match against Nigeria’s Rivers United.
The visiting team touched down at Victor Attah International Airport on Wednesday night. Their delegation included players, coaches, and key officials.
Berkane will hold a training session at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. This is scheduled for Thursday at 5 pm. It will be their first opportunity to experience the pitch before Friday’s crucial showdown.
Contrasting Fortunes for Both Teams
Both teams head into this fixture with contrasting recent performances. Rivers United suffered a 3-0 loss to Pyramids FC in their opening group game. In contrast, Berkane began their campaign with a confident 3-0 victory over Power Dynamos.
In the group’s other match, Pyramids and Power Dynamos will face each other.
Coach Chaabani Targets Away Victory
Before leaving Morocco, RS Berkane’s head coach, Mouine Chaabani, expressed optimism. He stated that the opening win set a positive tone for the team. He stressed their desire to build on this momentum.
“We will travel to Nigeria to face Rivers United,” Chaabani declared. “Our aim is to return with a positive result, and we hope it will be an away victory.”
He acknowledged the challenge. “We know it won’t be an easy match. Our goal is to reach the furthest possible point in the CAF Champions League.”
Player Injury Update
Chaabani also provided an update on two players. They sustained minor concerns during their opening game.
“Murabit is experiencing some knee issues,” he explained. “He started feeling discomfort after 15 minutes of play. However, it is not a serious injury.”
“The same applies to Mehri; his injury is also not worrying. We will consult the medical staff for further assessment.”
RS Berkane began their journey on Wednesday morning. They flew out of Oujda Angad Airport. The team connected through Lagos before completing the final leg to Uyo. CAF has appointed Senegalese referee Issa Sy to oversee the important contest.
