Moroccan club RS Berkane has landed in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. They are set for their CAF Champions League group match. Their opponent is Rivers United.
The team arrived at Victor Attah International Airport. This was on Wednesday night. Players, coaches, and key officials were all present.
Berkane will hold a training session on Thursday. It will be at 5 pm. The venue is Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. This will allow them to acclimatize to the pitch. The crucial match is scheduled for Friday.
Teams’ Current Form
Both teams enter this match with different recent results. Rivers United aims to bounce back. They suffered a 3-0 loss to Pyramids FC previously. Berkane, however, began their group stage strongly. They secured a confident 3-0 win against Power Dynamos.
Pyramids FC and Power Dynamos will play in the group’s other fixture.
Coach Chaabani’s Confidence
Head coach Mouine Chaabani spoke confidently before leaving Morocco. He discussed his team’s prospects in Nigeria. He noted their opening win set a positive tone. He emphasized the need to build on that momentum.
“We journey to Nigeria to face Rivers United,” Chaabani stated. “Our goal is a positive result. We truly hope for an away victory.” He acknowledged the difficulty. “We know it won’t be an easy match,” he added. “Our aim is to go as far as possible in the CAF Champions League.”
Player Injury Update
Chaabani also updated on two players. They had minor issues in the opening game.
“Murabit has some knee discomfort,” he explained. “He felt it after 15 minutes of play. But it is not a serious injury.” He added, “Mehri’s injury is also not worrying. We will consult our medical staff for both.”
Journey and Officials
Berkane’s journey began on Wednesday morning. They flew from Oujda Angad Airport. The team connected through Lagos. From there, they made the final leg to Uyo. CAF has assigned Senegalese referee Issa Sy to officiate the match.
