Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) appears to be warming once again to the idea of signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. This follows a notable shift in manager Luis Enrique’s earlier firm stance on the player.
For much of the year, Enrique was reportedly unconvinced about bringing Osimhen into the squad. Concerns regarding the Super Eagles star’s temperament were said to be a major sticking point. However, those worries now seem to have diminished.
A recent dip in form from current PSG striker Gonçalo Ramos has contributed to this reassessment. Furthermore, deeper reviews of PSG’s overall attacking balance have pushed the club to take another look at the former Napoli forward. This development was confirmed by respected transfer analyst Ekrem Konour.
“PSG is now seriously considering a recruitment as early as next summer,” Konour told Goal. He further explained, “This proves that Luis Enrique no longer rules out such a profile.”
This change of heart has revived internal discussions at PSG regarding the shape of their frontline. Konour clarified that this rethink is directly tied to perceived limitations within the team’s current structure. He added, “Osimhen has therefore become a credible option once again, especially if PSG’s current number nine decides to leave.”
Osimhen’s Current Status and Other Suitors
Osimhen’s current club, Galatasaray, insists they have no intention of letting him go during the upcoming winter transfer window. They are keen for him to complete the season in Turkey. Despite this, football insiders quietly believe that a substantial bid or a direct request from Osimhen himself could prompt a reconsideration.
Beyond PSG, European giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also closely monitoring Osimhen’s situation. Barcelona views him as a potential long-term successor to veteran striker Robert Lewandowski. Meanwhile, Real Madrid is weighing up their options in anticipation of a future squad reshuffle, potentially involving Vinicius Junior.
Reports from Spain suggest that Madrid considers Osimhen an ideal striker. They believe he can restore balance to their attack. This would also allow their star player, Kylian Mbappé, to operate with greater freedom from the left flank.
Spanish outlet Fichajes specifically reported Madrid’s assessment. They believe Osimhen’s potent mix of pace, power, and natural finishing ability would instantly make him a significant threat.
PSG’s Financial Edge in the Race
Despite strong competition, PSG appears to possess the financial muscle to outbid their rivals. The French champions can offer a salary package and transfer fee that Barcelona, in particular, may find challenging to match.
Konour elaborated on this financial disparity. “The clubs involved do not operate with the same financial power,” he stated. He emphasized, “PSG has far greater resources than Barcelona and are capable of submitting an offer that Galatasaray would struggle to refuse.”
He continued, “In addition, PSG can provide Osimhen with a much higher salary, placing the French champions in a favourable position.” Luis Enrique’s newfound positive stance further strengthens this advantage. It elevates the strategic importance of a potential deal for Osimhen.
