The Anglican community in Kaduna State is grieving. Venerable Edwin Achi, an Anglican priest, has been killed. He was abducted with his wife, Sarah, in Chikun Local Government Area.
The couple was taken from their Nissi community home. Armed bandits raided the area on October 28, 2025. Their daughter was also abducted in the late-night attack.
Abductors demanded N600 million initially. The sum was later reduced to N200 million. However, the family could not raise the funds.
Official Confirmation of Death
The Diocese of Kaduna, Anglican Communion, confirmed Achi’s death. This sad announcement came via their official Facebook page on Tuesday, November 26, 2025. The Diocese described his passing as a deep loss to the church. They mourn his faithful ministry, humble spirit, and devotion.
The Diocese continues to pray for his wife and daughter. Both are still held by the kidnappers. Standup for Jesus 2025 has been cancelled as a mark of respect.
Kidnappers’ Demands and Tactics
Earlier on Tuesday, kidnappers released photos. These showed the priest and his wife in captivity. This sparked significant public concern. The criminals had threatened to kill them. The deadline was the end of the week if ransom was unpaid.
Avril, Achi’s nephew, confirmed the priest’s murder. He stated that kidnappers used the cleric’s phone. They posted photographs to his Facebook account.
A family member expressed profound devastation. The household is in chaos. They could not afford the large ransom.
Security agencies have not issued a statement. No official update exists on rescue efforts. This concerns the remaining family members.
The initial ransom demand was N600 million. It was later lowered to N200 million. The abductors warned of execution if payment wasn’t made by the weekend.
