Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine, has urged key opposition figures to form a strategic alliance with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. On Wednesday, Momodu described this alliance as a crucial ‘rescue mission’ for Nigeria.
Momodu delivered the keynote address at the closing lecture of a week-long celebration. This event in Jada marked Abubakar’s birthday. During his speech, Momodu traced the former Vice-President’s political journey. He highlighted Atiku’s democratic credentials and his consistent disposition to non-violence.
Atiku’s Political Journey and Character
According to a statement from Abubakar’s media office, Momodu recalled Atiku’s actions during the 1993 SDP primary. He stated, “Atiku stepped down for my adopted father, MKO Abiola. This allowed Abiola to win the ticket.” Momodu emphasized Atiku is not a common politician. He has faced numerous betrayals, yet consistently prioritizes peace and patience.
Momodu further praised Atiku’s peaceful nature. He noted, “Atiku is not a violent politician. You will never see him parade thugs.” Momodu added, “Little wonder God has given him excellent health, alongside success in business. Atiku pursues his ambition with clarity and without violence.”
Strengthening Democracy and Leadership Qualities
The publisher also noted Abubakar’s legal challenges following election outcomes. These battles, he said, have significantly strengthened Nigeria’s constitutional law framework.
Momodu issued a warning against discouraging quality leadership during critical national moments. He asserted, “When we fail to encourage good people, the worst among us will thrive.”
Describing Abubakar as “a great manager of men and resources,” Momodu highlighted his steadfastness. He noted Atiku has consistently opposed military excesses and governance lapses. This was true even when political silence seemed safer. Momodu concluded that Atiku Abubakar is Nigeria’s most prepared political contender today. He urged a strong coalition of political and civic will to support him.
Momodu firmly stated, “No one is better prepared to lead this nation than Atiku at this time.”
