A Nigerian pastor recently used social media to reveal a significant ransom demand. Bandits abducted a church member. They are now demanding an exorbitant sum for the individual’s release.
The clergyman shared these details on his X account, previously known as Twitter.
Details of the Kidnapping and Ransom Demand
Pastor Gideon Odoma, known by his X handle @GideonOdoma, reported the abduction occurred last month. The kidnappers requested five motorcycles. These vehicles are collectively valued at over ₦2 million.
His viral tweet included a direct message to the kidnappers. He chose not to disclose the abducted member’s identity.
Pastor Odoma’s statement on X read:
“Last month, these same demands were made for another church member’s release. Each motorcycle costs over ₦2 million. The abductors sought five such bikes.”
“He explained telling the negotiator to convey a message. If the family could afford such a high ransom, the brother would not have been traveling in a public vehicle. This vehicle was where he was taken from.”
“Wealthy individuals do not typically travel as passengers on these routes. He questioned the demand for five motorcycles. He concluded, ‘Nigeria! This is not how to function as a nation.'”
This tweet surfaced after another X user reported recent peace talks. These talks reportedly involved bandits and occurred across five local government areas.
